Hash generator (MD5, SHA-256, file checksum)
Type text or choose a file to get five hashes at once. Files never leave your device.
| MD5 | — | |
|---|---|---|
| SHA-1 | — | |
| SHA-256 | — | |
| SHA-384 | — | |
| SHA-512 | — |
How to use
- Type text, or pick a file with "Choose a file".
- MD5 through SHA-512 appear.
- Paste the checksum from a download page into the last box to see which hash it matches.
Questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. It is read and hashed inside your browser.
Are MD5 and SHA-1 safe?
They are fine for spotting accidental corruption, but collisions can be made, so do not use them for security (signatures, passwords). Use SHA-256 or stronger.
Which text encoding is hashed?
UTF-8. Different line endings (LF vs CRLF) give different hashes.
Very large files?
The whole file is loaded into memory, so multi-gigabyte files may fail on some devices.
