How is percent change calculated?
(new − old) ÷ old × 100. From 80 to 100 is +25%; from 100 to 80 is −20%.
If I take 30% off and then add 30%, do I get the original price?
No. 100 minus 30% is 70, and 70 plus 30% is 91, because the second percentage applies to a smaller base.
What is the difference between percent and percentage points?
A change between two rates is in percentage points: a rate going from 2% to 3% rises 1 percentage point, which is a 50% increase.
What if the starting value is 0?
Percent change is undefined (division by zero), so no answer is shown.
