Questions
How is tax taken out of a gross price?
Tax = gross × rate ÷ (100 + rate), rounded to a whole unit; net = gross − tax. At 10%, 110 gross is 100 net plus 10 tax.
Why can the result differ by one from gross ÷ 1.1?
Because of rounding. This calculator rounds the tax first and leaves the rest as net.
Which rate applies in Japan?
10% in general and 8% (reduced rate) for food and drink other than alcohol and eating out, and for some newspapers.
Which rounding is right?
It depends on the seller or your accounting system; rounding down is common in Korea and Japan.
Is my input saved?
